On January 2nd in the nature reserve of the juniper heather "Dr. Heinrich Menke Park" near the village of Arft in the Eifel.
On the right in the background you can see the Hohe Acht, the highest elevation in the Eifel.

Today was my lucky dragonfly photographing day. Since now, I have been able only a few times to take photos of flying dragonflies, mostly not too good.
Today somehow it worked! Isn't this elegant hunter a beauty?

The great grey owl is an owl from the high northern area. He seems to be much larger than he is because half of his size is his plumage. Between the feathers is a lot of air which works like an isolator to keep the bird warm.

When I took this picture, the owner told me to keep my fingers away from the beak. They have very powerful beaks that can generate a pressure of 500 up to 2,000+ psi (pounds per square inch). Humans, for example, average a bite force of around 150 psi.
This image was captured at Parrot In Paradise, a parrot rescue, rehabilitation, education and adoption center. We were fortunate enough to stay on the property during our travels on the Big Island of Hawaii. . Being invited into the aviaries with these gorgeous birds was exciting. I was new to using a macro lens and found myself moving closer and closer to the birds. Before leaving I offered many of my photographs to the owners and throughout the years, those images have been used on their website. What golden memories!

Sa contenance est fière, sa démarche grave, son naturel hardi, courageux, son tempérament chaud, vigoureux. Son chant est l'horloge de la campagne, jour et nuit, sa voix tire du bas de la trachée-artère. La poule est sa femelle. Au milieu de son sérail, tantôt en amant doux, complaisant, attentif, il est aux petits soins : avertit les poules du danger, les appelle pour partager avec lui sa bonne fortune, pousse même la galanterie jusqu'à leur abandonner tout entière ; tantôt c'est un souverain jaloux qui ne souffre pas la présence d'un rival. Si l'on contrefait le chant du coq, il est inquiet, en alarmes, rassemble ses poules, veille sur elles avec assiduité. Le coq est un oiseau très lubrique et coche la poule en plein air et jusqu'à cinquante fois dans un jour.

Near the location of Kruft in the Eastern Eifel or Pellenz on the edge of fields ready for harvest, peas in the foreground, wheat in the background. The thistle was almost 2 m high.
Bei Kruft in der Osteifel oder Pellenz am Rande von erntereifen Feldern, im Vordergrund Erbsen, im Hintergrund Weizen. Die Distel war fast 2 m hoch.

Sword ferns often don't get the respect I think they should. They carry on with their lives, not asking much of us. A bit of water and some shade will help the average sword fern thrive. I knew they held a certain beauty with their arching fronds that sheltered the spiders and other little creatures in my garden. The Royal Arrival is stray tomcat which visits the Wild Garden on a daily basis, spending most of his time here. Still he is very cautious not to let come humans too close to him - it is obvious he must have made bad experiences with the human race. But on this day he allowed me to come quite close to him to take this close up portrait. It took years to be allowed so close to him.
He is very welcome here, loved and cared for as much as he accepts being cared for. He loves his indedpendence and wild life which is well respected. Also, he is very talkative – when talking to him he always answers as he loves to have the last word 😄….

Es la iglesia parroquial de Viso del Marqués, de estilo transición gótico-renacentista, fue levantada en el siglo XV. Edificio de una nave, descentrada respecto al presbiterio, por estar construida sobre los restos de otra más antigua. En sus paredes cuelga "El lagarto de Viso", un cocodrilo disecado de unos 5 metros de longitud procedente del río Nilo, que fue traído a la localidad por el marqués de Santa Cruz, Álvaro de Bazán, en una de sus expediciones. Albergaba una tabla de la escuela flamenca que representa el Calvario, que actualmente se encuentra en un nicho de la iglesia parroquial después de haber sido restaurada.

What has happened to the art of respect? We are all human beings, made of flesh and blood, no-one is superior to anyone else. It is time to change the political rhetoric which is supposed to guide us. The language used these days is not fit for our children's ears, it needs to be cleaned up so that we can teach our children about love and diversity, not hate and non acceptance! It is President Trumps duty to lead by example, through educated behavior which can also benefit his own son.

The beautiful scenes at the beach just highlight the first few hours of Australia Day. Being Australian citizens is an honour for my family and me! My thoughts however are only enhanced by the stories shared with me by a greatly respected Birapi elder. His First Nations people walked the beaches and fished these waters for thousands of years before Europeans arrived.

Thai people have always been known to have great respect for old values such as the proper ways a woman should act. The prim and proper ways of a true lady who stays at home spending all her time taking care of children, cook wonderful meals and can make the most marvelous flower creations. These values make Thai women, especially in the area where education is less important than everyday survival, underestimate themselves. We are stronger and we have more impact on society, more than we thought we had. Our opinions matter too and we definitely know more than just the best deals at the supermarket.
It's true that we can't change society and its values overnight but what we can do is to start within ourselves, build confidence within us through knowledge and be the best version of ourselves that we know we could be.

This wiry fence is doing its best to keep people from falling off the cliff overlooking a local waterfall. You can just make out the top of the falls in the background. However, the fence itself is not one I would trust to hold me if I lean on it. It is definitely up to people to respect the boundaries and take caution. We love all the snowshoeing we have been doing this month as we continue to get fresh snowfalls everyday. On this day, the snow was so wet, it was a challenge to keep our gear dry. Happy Fence Friday!
